The History Behind Castello Brown

The castle was founded in the early 15th century and was used to defend the surrounding area from attacks. It was well preserved throughout the centuries and was eventually purchased by the English Consul Montague Yeats Brown in 1867. With the advice of the engineer Pietro Tamurelli and Alfredo de Andrade, they turned the fortress into a gorgeous, stunning villa that eventually held the Consul’s wedding. Castello Brown is now a museum owned and run by the Portofino municipality.

How to Get To Castello Brown

Castello Brown is located on the hill of Portofino. Guests can reach the castle only by foot from the main square. A windy path leads up past terraces that have view points over the Portofino harbor. The walk includes a few steps and takes about 10 minutes.

There are two different terrace areas available for your wedding or  the main hall on the castle’s ground floor. Each one features fantastic views for you and your guests.

The  lower garden is ideal for welcome canapes. While the upper terrace can host your panoramic ceremony and dinner. This area can be transformed for plan B scenarios with a tent structure to cover the courtyard.

The venue is ideal for up to around 100 guests.
The best time of the year to host your wedding is between May to September because of the spectacular weather. It’s important to note that there are no accommodations located at Castello Brown, so you’ll need to book alternative hotels or homes in the nearby area.
